First Light Home Care logoIn this webinar, Lynn Casteel Harper, author of On Vanishing: Mortality, Dementia, and What It Means to Disappear, will invite participants to re-examine the common “decline” or “tragedy” framing of dementia and embrace more creative, hopeful, and humanizing approaches. Challenging the ageism and cognitivism that stigmatize dementia, Harper will highlight movements and individuals who are forging more life-affirming and joyful paths forward.

About the Presenter:

Rev. Lynn Casteel HarperRev. Lynn Casteel Harper, an essayist, minister, and chaplain, is the pastor of Olivet Congregational Church UCC in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Lynn previously served as the Minister of Older Adults at The Riverside Church in the City of New York and as a nursing home chaplain. Her debut book, On Vanishing: Mortality, Dementia, and What It Means to Disappear (Catapult, 2020), was named a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice and a Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle selection.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the “tragedy narrative” commonly associated with dementia, including its origins and harmful impacts on individuals living with dementia.
  • Identify emerging approaches that challenge ageism and dementism of the tragedy frame by promoting more creative, humanizing, and hopeful perspectives.
  • Apply tools and resources to facilitate more positive and person-centered approaches to dementia in professional practice.

Continuing Education Credit Hours:

ALCA will apply for 1.5 CE contact hour from NACCM and CCMC. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # 15884, for 1 Contact Hour. Attendee must attend entire webinar to receive any CE certificates.

Cancellation Policy

The registration fee for webinars is non-refundable. Registrants who are not able to attend the webinar will receive audio & video files following the event. For clinical webinars, CE contact hours will not be available to those who are not able to attend the entire live event. In the unfortunate event that a webinar needs to be cancelled or rescheduled ALCA will notify the registrant by email and provide information on the new date or alternative arrangements. If the registrant is not able to attend the new date ALCA will refund the registration fee or place a credit towards a future event.
